Don’t Pack That Extra Bag on Continental & American Airlines, It will Cost YOU!

It’s all over the news, gas prices and oil prices are through the roof, and they don’t look to be coming down anytime soon. If you like to travel as much as I do, you always have to keep up on all the newest regulations. I usually fly Continental Airlines because I have elite status which lets me over back my bags and usually get bumped to first class. However, there are times when American Airlines is a better deal or is the only one flying to where I want to go. Well if you fly American or Continental any time from now on, you will have to pay for that 2nd Bag. We all are used to getting two bags under 50 lbs for free when we fly. American Airlines is now charging $25.00 for the second bag unless you are preferred AAdvantage Customer. Additional bags including skis will not cost you $100 for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th bags. The 6th Bag and up from there will cost you $200 per piece! Continental Airlines is also charging $25.00 for the second bag if you are not an exempt customer. All additional bags will be charged $100.00. Exemptions are below:

Certain customers are exempt from paying the new fee and will be allowed to check second bags free of charge (bags must meet weight and size restrictions). These customers include:
- OnePass Elite members
- SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members
- Any customer traveling on a ticket purchased in Y class of service
- Continental Airlines Presidential Plus credit card holders
- Active military personnel traveling on orders
- Any customer traveling to/from Brazil or the Dominican Republic
Customers traveling with the above exempt customers are also exempt as long as they are traveling in the same reservation. This exemption will not apply to group reservations including 10 or more customers.

Don’t forget that these charges are for each way that you travel. If you are going round trip, you can double those amounts!
The best thing to do is to invite me or someone else with elite or some other special exempt status to travel with you so that you don’t have to pay for the 2nd Bag!
